Children writing letters together, sitting on beds and sharing notebooks

A Global Pen Pal Initiative

Khat for Kindness.

This project connects children living in orphanages around the world through handwritten letters, shared story by story, envelope by envelope.

Our Mission

Every letter is a small bridge between two lives.

Khat for Kindness is a global pen pal initiative that connects children living in orphanages through handwritten letters shared via email. "Khat" means "letter" in Urdu, reflecting the project's mission of spreading kindness through meaningful connections.

By exchanging stories about their daily lives, cultures, and dreams, children build friendships across borders, broaden their understanding of the world, and become part of a supportive global community. A single page of handwriting can tell a child, somewhere far away, that they are seen, that their story matters, and that they belong to something bigger than the walls around them.

The Journey of a Letter

How it works, envelope to envelope.

Send us the letters through email to get started, along with a little about the child's age, interests, and what they'd love to talk about.

2

We find a match

Children are paired with a pen pal their age from another country, chosen to spark real common ground — shared hobbies, dreams, or curiosities.

The khat is written

Each child handwrites their letter, sharing stories about daily life, culture, and dreams. Volunteers help translate where needed.

The letter is scanned and emailed to its pen pal across the world, who writes back — and the friendship keeps growing, letter by letter.
